International Student Congress opportunity

2 AMSA International members have the amazing opportunity to be ambassadors for AMSA International at the upcoming International Student Congress in Austria this year. If you are interested in this rare opportunity, please contact marketing@amsa-international.org and chair@amsa-international.org to express your interest. See below for more information about the ICS.

From 4th to 6th of June 2015 the International Student Congress (ISC) will enter the third round. Again, it will take place at the campus of the Medical University of Graz in Austria.

In only two years the ISC managed to become a great opportunity for students from all over the world to acquire scientific research skills, get experience in presenting their work and projects as well as connecting with researchers of their age and educational level. Guests from more than 40 countries participated already. This congress is organized by voluntary students only, which makes it a unique opportunity to represent the interests of young researchers, most of them still in education.

The ISC offers three days of keynote-sessions, workshops and presentations. The program will predominately be designed for students and young researchers in medical or medicine-related fields. It is a unique possibility to start a scientific career by giving a presentation or present aposter in front of other students in a familiar, yet professional atmosphere.

Austrians are known for being hard-working, but also for enjoying life at it’s fullest. Therefore, a thorough social program will be offered, including a exciting city tour through Graz, a visit to city hall and much more.

Taking Certification Exams From an Asian Country

The Step 1 and Step 2 CK exams are some of the most important exams you’ll take during your medical career. We’ll walk through our suggested resources, why the score is important, and contact information specifically for Asian countries.

Suggested Resources:

Students that take more practice questions score higher on the exam. (Based on several statistically significant studies) The Step 1 and Step 2 Exams are not only fact review, they also challenge you to think through scenarios and clinical problems. This is why practice questions are one of the best modes of review – and why you should take practice questions in both timed and review modes.

We worked with one of our sponsors, Board Vitals, to offer a deeply discounted rate to our members. Board Vitals has trained over 20,000 students and we highly recommend their courses.

$39 – Step 1 Question Bank (use code AMSA)

$39 – Step 2 CK Question Bank (use code AMSA)

Why the Score is Important:

Performance on the Step 1 is highly correlated with placement into good Residency programs. You are more likely to match into certain specialties based on your score. Here are several sample ranges.

Dermatology: Step 1 Most Common Score Range – 240-255

Orthopedic Surgery: Step 1 Most Common Score Range – 238-253

Otolaryngology: Step 1 Most Common Score Range – 240 – 252

Resources Specifically for Asian Test Takers:

The Educational Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates is available to help answer questions. There is also a dedicated email address and phone number at the NBME for international students:

USMLEreg@nbme.org or call 215-590-9700.

The cost of Step 1 is $590 and the cost of Step 2 is $590. There is also an additional charge – we put together the contact information and surcharges for each country. Rates are current as of 2015.
