World Health Satellite Meeting

The World Health Satellite Meeting is organised by AMSA Singapore and the International Federation of Medical Student Assosciations (IFMSA). It will take place at the Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine from 6-7 April and is followed by the prestigious World Health Summit which runs from 8-10 April 2013.

The Satellite Event comprises of engaging speakers, workshops and discussions particularly focusing on the roles of students in global health. Our guest speakers will also personally critique your ideas and help you enhance your knowledge about global healthcare policies!

World AIDS Day 2012: Go Zero!

AMSA-International, it is time to wake up, stand up, and speak up. In Go Zero!, the second academic competition of this term, we challenge you to explore the issue of HIV/AIDS in your country and the world. World AIDS Day 2012 has just passed with updates and new developments. Translate your knowledge into weapons against ignorance and misconceptions, and help us take another step toward zero.

“Getting to Zero: Zero New HIV Infections, Zero Discrimination, Zero AIDS-related Deaths”

Our most recent academic competition presents two ways to participate: the Popular Science Article Competition and the Poster Competition.

All competition submissions must adhere to the guidelines (found below) and should be submitted before March 31, 2013 23.59 GMT.

J-AMSA Call for Submissions

JAMSA is calling for authors to submit papers and articles electronically through the JAMSA website (www.j-amsa.org) for its second volume due in July.

JAMSA (Journal of the Asian Medical Students’ Association) aims to provide medical students across Asia-Pacific with a high quality journal in which they can publish original research articles, reviews, case reports. conference reports and elective reports. JAMSA is entirely student run, and serves to promote and develop the interests and welfare of medical students across Asia.

Articles may be related to any topic in medicine, and medical students of all levels are encouraged to submit papers for publishing. We hope you will take this opportunity to develop your professional abilities in the medical field as well as contribute to the pool of medical knowledge and experience.

Potential papers may include:

  • Original research articles on research projects conducted during medical school,
  • review articles on a particular area of interest,
  • perspective articles on issues affecting medical students across Asia-Pacific
  • case reports which document interesting cases or novel approaches to management.

Papers will be subjected to rigorous editorial evaluation and peer-review to ensure that high quality and professional standards are attained.

The second volume will be released on July 3 (for AMSC 2013) so please send in your articles soon.

AMSA Responds to Flooding in Indonesia

Heavy flooding in Indonesia has called action withing AMSA-International. AMSA will soon channel funds to the recovery effort in Indonesia as each chapter starts to rally donations, as per protocol established in the Tokyo Declaration.

Official Letter released in response to Jakarta Flood

The flood has already claimed the lives of at least 12 people at time of announcement. The following weeks to months will see the slow recovery of infrastructure and rehabilitation of patients who have been injured or fallen ill as result of the flooding. Please consider the many different avenues of supporting this cause. Examples include:

  • The collection of monetary donations, tinned or dried food (to be forwarded to your Regional Chairperson)
  • Following and sharing AMSA’s relief efforts on Facebook
  • Letters of support for the flood recovery to be sent or published in the public arena

End of Year Update

Our Chairperson Juin Yi and Vice-Chairpersons Alicia and Sam have released a video detailing the progress that AMSA-International has made throughout 2012 and plans for the future.

These include – AMSA-International’s new visual identity across all AMSA subsidaries, AMSA’s Alumni Club, AMSA-International Day and developing relations with EMSA (European Medical Students Association).

EAMSC2013 Announcement RE: Safety after Recent Earthquake

A bulletin has been released from the conference organizers emphasizing the safety of the upcoming EAMSC2013 in Tokyo, Japan following an earthquake on the 7th of December.

The conference will proceed as planned with delegate safety being the largest priority with Risk Management having been a part of the organisation of the conference from its inception.
