Do you know the latest update on Zika cases in Asia?
Local scientists found that the virus belongs to Asian lineage; likely evolved from the strain that was already circulating in South East Asia. The virus that was found from early cases in Asia was not imported from South America.
Zika virus was first identified in Uganda and is now widely found across Africa, Asia, America and the Pacific. Recently, 242 cases of infections caused by a new strain were found in Singapore. 1 case was also reported in Malaysia and cases of local infection are on the rise.
