AMSA Song Competition

Dear People of Tomorrow,

We are excited to announce the launch of the AMSA Song competition!

The AMSA song is the official song and video will be used to officiate AMSA events in all our chapters, both locally and internationally. This competition will be open to both our current members and also our fellow alumni. 

 

Some basic rules:

  1. Songwriters must be an AMSA member or alumni.
  2. Contestants must send a recording of themselves performing their song and videos to the loamsaac@amsa-international.org in a .mp4 or .wmv format
  3. Each contestant may submit one media only.
  4. The entry will be based on this version of AMSA Song: https://youtu.be/-P10nmV94yk
  5. Contestants can turn it to their version and interpretation or stick to the original.
  6. Songs may have been previously recorded.
  7. The composer(s) must retain all rights to the song.
  8. Entries must be received by July 10.
  9. The winners will be chosen by a panel of judges. All decisions of the judging panel are final.
  10. Judging criteria includes applicability to the contest topic, related to AMSA, and song quality.
  11. It is not necessary to win, but extra consideration will be given to songs that still represent the original message and feelings but provides new creative ways of presentation for AMSA song to be recognisable.
  12. Winners will be notified by email or phone by July 14.
  13. First, second and third place winners will receive a prize.

Awards:

  • 1st place : $500
  • 2nd place : $300
  • 3rd place : $200

Winners will also recieve recognition amongst AMSA members,have the winning song be professionally recorded and used in every AMSA event afterwards, and a Certificate.

We welcome Asia–Pacific Dental Student Association (APDSA)

Asia–Pacific Dental Student Association (APDSA) is the brainchild of the Asia–Pacific Dental Federation (APDF) and it was formed since 1968. Besides, APDSA serves as a platform for the dental students from across the Asia Pacific Region to connect and unite as one, while expanding their social circle. 
The first APDSA annual congress was launched in 1969. Over 400 students, professors and graduate doctors from more than 13 countries in the region attend this congress each year, with hosting of the congress rotated amongst member countries. Moreover, APDSA provides a variety of programmes for the Asian Pacific dental students annually, such as lend-a-hand project, idem-apdsa students leadership programme, scientific research competition, physiologic quiz, soap carving competition, APDSJ and others.  Through these activities, the APDSA members can learn and understand more about the future prospects and fields in dentistry which is ever changing and transforming.

ANNOUNCEMENT: Departure of Johna

Dear all,

We sadly announce the departure of Johna Pauline Ocampo Mandac (Philippines Chapter) from the AMSA International Executive Committee, with her last day of work being the 16th of May 2018 (Wednesday). We would like to thank John for her contribution during her short time with us and we wish her all the best in her future endeavours. In her absence, Sopak Supakul can be contacted for all related concerns via email at publichealth@amsa-international.org. Hence, the position of a Director of Public Health will be vacant till the end of the tenure. [Call for Participants] ASEAN Secretariat Visit

AMSA International is currently building strong partnership with Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN). ASEAN is an organisation in Southeast Asia which consists of 10 member states, namely Brunei Darussalam, Cambodia, Indonesia, Lao PDR, Malaysia, Myanmar, Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, and Vietnam.

This year will mark our second collaboration in hosting ASEAN Secretariat Visit, which is an opportunity and privilege given to AMSA International members to visit ASEAN’s Headquarter in Jakarta, Indonesia.

The ASEAN Secretariat Visit will be held on

J-AMSA Research Contest 2018

  • Eligibility:Any medical student from AMSA Chapters.
  • Paper length:Papers must be a minimum of 1000 words for review paper, 2000 for original, 2000-2500 for review paper and 1500-2000 for case report
  • Bibliography:The research paper must include a bibliography (references) of at least 8 citations and be written in a standard Vancouver format.
  • Judges: Judging will be done by a panel finalized by JAMSA team, the team shall include experts and all papers shall be sent to at least 3 judges.
  • Mentor/Advisor: The student’s advisor/mentor (if any) is required to submit a letter indicating that the majority of the research presented in the paper is primarily the work of the student, done while the first author is a student, and that the contribution from other authors is secondary.

 

  • Number of authors: If the paper has more than three authors, cover page must also include the detail of each author:
  1. Percentage of technical efforts contributed to the work,
  2. Role of each author, and
  3. A single sentence describing the technical contribution of each author. Failure to provide this letter will result in disqualification.
  • Announcement of Winners: Winners will be announced in early July. Certificate of participation will be awarded to all participants. For paper at 1st, 2nd and 3rd place, special certificates will be issued and their names will be published on JAMSA website as well.
  • Papers Publication: All submissions will be published in JAMSA after proper review process
  • Description of Research Process

 

  • Cover letter mentioning:
  1. How did you find your sources? (Indexes, databases, Google etc)
  2. How did you select the ones you used?  What criteria did you use?  What was it about these sources that made them appropriate?
  3. Were there sources you identified but decided not to use?  If so, why?
  4. Describe the types of sources used and why.
  5. Discuss outside sources used, if any, such as interviews, other libraries, other institutions or companies, etc.
  6. What, if any, difficulties (e.g. guidance, funding, patient compliance etc) did you run into in doing your research?
  7. What did you learn about research from doing this paper?
  8. Any other information you would like to add to your description of the research process?,

 

Judging criteria:

  1. Resources used (databases for literature search, location/are of sampling etc)
  2. Variety and appropriateness of sources used
  3. Uniqueness and novelty
  4. Quality of the research process description
  5. Number of authors (The more the author number, the less the score given)
  6. Methodology of study
  7. Analysis and statistical tools
  8. Way of presentation of results
